Reconceiving The Catholic University of America master plan is essential to the mission of this university, which is to form the faith and reason of young Catholics. The Catholic University of America is charged with directing its community towards the highest good and to ensure the profound “enduring and pervasive influence of the Christian mind in the furtherance of culture” and that “the students … are molded into men [and women] truly outstanding in their training, ready to undertake weighty responsibilities in society and witness to the faith in the world.” (Gravissimum Educationis, n. 10, Pope Paul VI, 1965).
To ensure the success of The Catholic University of America, this master plan will centralize the university chapel, celebrate the campus ministry center, dignify the student spaces, and ensure a beautiful and sustainable future for the university. The Catholic University of America must have a centrally located church fit for the pontifical university in America. The Department of Campus Ministry at The Catholic University of America will be afforded the dignity of a place aimed towards helping people grow in faith and care for humanity. The university student spaces must be enhanced to meet the needs of a
high-quality research and educational institution that is faithfully Catholic. The campus and built environment will be beautiful and sustainable to ensure the health of the community and the environment. In order for The Catholic University of America to continue growing the master plan for the campus must evolve to utilize architecture that elevates the human spirit and meets the needs of a community centered around faith.
